Furthermore, out of every three people, it is common; that there is a lack of sleep issues. Moreover, whether it is stress from work, home, your diet, or your routine are among many other contributing factors.

Disordered sleep often goes hand in hand with a lower mood, heightened anxiety, or increased stress. But though almost everyone has plenty of personal experience with a spike in stress or an emotional outburst triggered by a night of poor sleep–and countless others experience depression-ADHD or anxiety-related sleep challenges that can persist for months or years at a time–

Insomnia

Insomnia is a major health care problem in the United States. It can occur independently or can be caused by another disease. Approximately 6 to 10 percent of adults have insomnia that meets diagnostic criteria. Insomnia is more common in women and older adults. People with insomnia often experience fatigue, poor cognitive function, mood disturbance, and distress or interference with personal functioning. Chronic insomnia is diagnosed when symptoms cause clinically significant functional distress or impairment, are present for at least three nights per week for at least three months. and are not linked to other sleep, medical, or mental disorders.

Healthy Sleep

But in general, evidence consistently shows that healthy amounts of sleep are associated with better mood, improved productivity, and even heightened satisfaction with life in general. Almost everyone can benefit from more–or more restful–sleep. But in today’s fast-paced world, consistent, restorative sleep can be hard to come by. For many, it’s among the first things to be sacrificed when schedules become busier or responsibilities become overwhelming.

Health and Sleep

But the benefits of prioritizing and improving one’s sleep can be vast, and doing so is often not as difficult as many people think. These strategies–of behaviors to engage in, as well as some to avoid–can help most people turn restful sleep from a distant dream into a reality. For many people, living with, battling, and surviving these challenges has been echoed in their sleep. Sleep is affected by every aspect of our lives and affects every part of our lives. Your Health and Sleep Deprivation suffers…

BUT… IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE! Setting Yourself up with a regular routine prior to bed can be very beneficial. Furthermore, sticking with a regular bedtime routine your brain and internal clock. Most adults need 6 to 9 hours of sleep. However, once you find a good sleep pattern your internal body will let you know how much time you need.

Poor Sleep and Stress

Poor sleep is theorized to trigger the production of stress hormones like cortisol, which can increase anxiety the following day. It’s also been linked to increased activity in the parts of the brain that generate emotions and decreased activity in the parts of the brain that regulate those emotions. In most cases, these hormone and brain-activity imbalances are temporary. However, it’s all too easy for anxiety and sleep deprivation to feed off each other and create a never-ending cycle.

Thoughts, behaviors, and feelings can have an extraordinary impact on one’s ability to fall and stay asleep. Even with the most potent of sleep medications and a lack of sleep the brain still struggles to sleep. The flip side is if we have the strength to maintain wake under such conditions, we also have the strength to learn to sleep, even under the most stressful of times.

Ending Poor Sleep Habits

While implementing positive sleep habits and consistent bedtime routines can make a big difference in someone’s sleep quantity and quality, ending negative sleep-related habits and behaviors is just as critical. While the bad habits that interrupt our sleep are different for everyone, in most cases this process will involve cutting back on food and drinks that interfere with sleep, staying away from disruptive electronic devices, and identifying and minimizing any obstacles that are preventing an individual from getting the rest they need.

Why can’t I fall asleep?

On any given night, there are a number of reasons why sleep may be harder to come by. Some include: having too much to eat or drink, exercising too close to bedtime, exercising too close to bedtime, looking at screens in the evening, or feeling lingering stress from a busy day. If sleeplessness only persists for a short period of time, it does likely not a cause for alarm. If it continues from longer than four weeks–and some of the most common culprits have been addressed, with no results–it may be time to bridge the topic with a professional.
